Stephen Sondheim was an American composer and lyricist. Sondheim started his theatre career by writing the lyrics for West Side Story (1957) and Gypsy (1959) before becoming a composer and lyricist. Thomas Richard Wirth was part of the art scene in New York City starting in the early 1960s. He was friends with a number of artists, actors, and writers and took part in the "mail art" movement in the 1970s and 1980s, both as a sender and a recepient.
